Dr. Melillo is excited to announce this next level of learning in this on line course!

Advanced Clinical Functional Neuroanatomy

The focus on timing, coordination and synchronization of networks is where the primary focus of functional connectivity research and treatment is going. All mental health, education and most physical health issues are being shown to be all a result of abnormal functional connectivity that primarily starts during development. There has been an increased focus on Functional Connectivity and its relationship to hemispheric integration, recent research publications and mainstream books have had huge success focusing on lack of hemisphere integration and brain asymmetry as a root cause of most mental health issues. Therefore, to provide the most advanced treatments a Neurotherapy provider must have the most complete understanding of the anatomy and function of the brain and how to functionally measure and treat each area.

This course also Introduces a New model of Hemispheric Cognitive Style and Personality based on specific functional neuroanatomy. This dramatically expands the hemispheric model created by Dr. Melillo into multiple right and left hemisphere cognitive styles and personality that more specifically identifies different functional abilities and deficits in people and helps localize and correlate to clinical conditions. This helps to focus treatment in the most directed and specific fashion.

Advanced Functional Neuroanatomy Vs Child Neurodevelopmental Fellowship Program

This course can be done as a precursor to, along with or after the Fellowship Course in CND. They are very different courses that are designed to be taken separately but yet perfectly complement one another.

Who is This Course Designed For?

Even though I believe anyone can understand and complete this course, this course is not for everyone. This course is directed toward the most elite and experienced clinicians in Neurology, Functional Neurology, Functional Neuroscience, Clinical Neuroscience, Neuropsychology and Neurotherapy. Those who want to continue to learn more and better help their patients with new levels of understanding in Functional Neurology.

Most of this material I have never taught before at all or never to this detail. All of this information although incredibly advanced will all be geared toward improving your clinical skill and outcomes, this is first and foremost a clinical program. I am so excited to teach this course and I hope you will join me in this epic adventure.

The course will include detailed and practical information on

  • Functional Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the cortex, including each Broadman area specifically broken down by location, function, laterality, pathology, clinical, functional signs and symptoms, and exam findings. We will also discuss in detail all afferent and efferent connections and the relationship to resonant frequencies in each area.
  • Neuropathology of Brodmann Areas and how this relates to specific neuropathological conditions such as, ADHD, Dyslexia, OCD, Tourettes, Autism, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Eating Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, Immune Dysfunction & Dysautonomia
  • Brain/Body Development
  • Neurophysiology and Biochemistry
  • Brain wave development, functional Neuroanatomy, clinical implications and measurement
  • Functional Measurements and Clinical Applications
  • Systems Neuroscience
  • Graph Theory
  • Tensiometry
  • Complexity Theory
  • Network function, localization and lateralization
  • Much, Much more

Each module is approximately 15 hours long and available now for VIDEO REPLAY!

(see bottom of page for healthcare CEU information)

Module 1

Functional Neuroanatomy of the cortex, including the six layers of the human brain, the Occipital Lobe, Parietal Lobe, Temporal Lobe, Frontal Lobe, Limbic lobe and Prefrontal Cortex. We will review in detail the specific neuroanatomy of each Brodmann area and its connection to various functional cortical systems. We will review the anatomy and functions of Posterior and Anterior cortex as well as the limbic system, the subicular, Rhinal, and cingulate systems as well as the hippocampus and Amygdala. Each Broadman area specifically broken down by location, function and laterality. We will also discuss in all afferent and efferent connections and the relationship to resonant frequencies in each area.

Module 2

We will continue in great detail to discuss the Functional Neurophysiology and Neuropathology of each Brodmann area focusing on location, function, lateralization and the relationship to specific functions, functional deficits, clinical symptoms, syndromes and specific localizing exam findings. We will discuss in great detail Brain Asymmetry, Broadman areas and a breakdown of each are into normal and abnormal functions, symptoms and laterality of each area and symptoms. We will then relate all this and all Brodmann areas to specific clinical syndromes including ADHD, Dyslexia, Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Tourettes, Processing Disorders, Language Disorders, schizophrenia, Bipolar, Eating Disorders, Immune Disorders, Dysautonomia, Autism and many more .

Module 3

We will continue with Functional Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology or the cortex and Brodmann areas by now connecting the cortex to the rest of the brain including the brainstem, cerebellum, basal ganglia and the thalamus. We will Discuss the connections of Brodmann area to the direct, indirect and hyperdirect pathway. We will connect this with specific thalamic nuclei and with specific cerebellar connections to the thalamus, basal ganglia, cortex and prefrontal cortex. We will trace the afferent and efferent connections in greater detail and we will discuss where various brainwaves or resonant frequencies originate. This will allow us to discuss the root causes of cortical dysfunction, which will allow us to develop the best and most specific treatment approach.

Module 4

We will now attempt to put all this functional Neuroanatomy info into a complete clinical model. We will put the whole functional system together we will review Systems Neuroscience, Graph Theory, Tensiometry, Complexity Theory. We will look at all Brodmann and subcortical areas and describe each as the relate to specific functional Networks and hubs ,We will discuss the neuroanatomy and function of each network in detail including ,The Visual Network ,Default Mode Network, Salience Network, Executive Function Network ( fronto parietal), The Dorsal and Ventral Attention Networks, Limbic Network, Somatic Motor Network .We will discuss in detail The functional Neuroanatomy and Laterality, as well as clinical implications of dysfunction of these networks with specific conditions. Lastly we review specific examination findings related to Brodmann areas, lobes, subcortical areas and networks. We will also discuss specific objective Functional Testing to quantify and isolate specific functional lesions . We discuss in detail various forms of bottom up and top down , treatment approaches including the most cutting edge brain assessment and  stimulation tools

Bonus - just added Module 5

This module takes ALL of the information and helps you put it all together into a complete system that will truly change the way you treat patients.  We will look at the functional connections, what they control on each side of the brain and what symptoms can be seen for each area or combination of area. Then we will go over how to treat and improve functions in the areas and how to target functional networks in your therapies and treatment.  This module takes the entire course full circle to put everything into context of helping patients daily with all of this information.

Effective February 10, 2023, This course cannot provide ACNB credit hours. The ACNB has decided that no outside organizations or Universities will be allowed to provide ACNB hours unfortunately.  The course is still approved for IBFN Fellowship hours or renewal hours for IBFN and IAFNR.  For questions or more information please feel free to email us at melillomethod@gmail.com.
